Education was not broken. What it suffered from was overcrowding and falling funds. Because they rely on a functioning economy. The fall of our schools can probably be pinpointed to the around the time Nixon pulled the US off the gold standard. And then accelerated when Reagan began tax relief to the upper echelons of society. This is trickle down economics in action.

The game devs don't care about helping our children. They see them as a monetary widgets to enrich themselves. They are offering to "game" a system that needs funding. And most of that funding will be flowing their way as they offer bogus "education as game" solutions.

This is all the same old, same old junk as the dot coms and every other tech bubble. The devs will exploit holes until we revolt. And only then will they reconsider their ethical stances.

They will never build ethical structures until we hold their feet to the fire.

Great post - and some excellent videos.
Have to say that I don't share Jesse's casual acceptance of the vision of the future he presents. Social engineering + marketing in a cruel mix. I only hope that if it comes to pass that there'll be some serious culture jamming and meta-gaming going on.
