Celebrating Accomplishments at Work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"20181110_080238\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/fleep\/45085833374\/in\/datetaken-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4856\/45085833374_ff6fa2694b.jpg\" alt=\"20181110_080238\" width=\"500\" height=\"243\" \/><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a chilly Saturday morning in November, and I&#8217;ve got three whole days off with no plans, no social commitments, and no agenda other than cleaning house this weekend.\u00c2\u00a0 It feels marvelous to have a stretch of free time after a very busy few months.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a long time since I posted about work related things on my personal blog, but we have had several big accomplishments to celebrate the past few weeks!<\/p>\n<h2>Creation of the University of Cincinnati Staff Senate<\/h2>\n<p>The first is the creation of a university-wide Staff Senate.\u00c2\u00a0 On October 16th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uc.edu\/news\/articles\/2018\/10\/n203522.html\">the UC Board of Trustees approved a resolution to create a Staff Senate<\/a> to give staff a formal voice in the university&#8217;s governance process, and I was honored and excited to be involved in the process.\u00c2\u00a0 It took nearly two years to shepherd the idea from start to finish, and though I only played a minor role in the beginning, I&#8217;ve been very involved since the start of 2018 helping draft the bylaws and advocating for the Senate to university leadership.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/uc.edu\/news\/articles\/2018\/10\/n203522\/_jcr_content\/main\/responsive_section\/par\/textimage\/image.img.jpg\/1539705985013.jpg\" alt=\"Chris at the Board of Trustees meeting, celebrating passage of the Staff Senate resolution!\" width=\"489\" height=\"326\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Smiling at the Board of Trustees meeting when the resolution finally passed!\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Photo: Joseph Fuqua II\/UC Creative Services<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When the resolution passed as few weeks ago, it felt like such an accomplishment to give the employees of the university a voice.\u00c2\u00a0 As someone who has worked at UC for going on 20 years, it has always seemed like an oversight that faculty and student governance groups were represented at the decision-making table, but staff were not.\u00c2\u00a0 I hope that the creation of a Staff Senate doesn&#8217;t add yet another bureaucratic layer to the already complex decision-making process, but instead becomes a a useful forum for staff to share their institutional knowledge and expertise with the other governance bodies on campus.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/www.uc.edu\/news\/articles\/2018\/10\/n203522\/jcr:content\/image.img.jpg\/1539717594427.jpg\" alt=\"Members of the Staff Senate Advisory Committee\" width=\"498\" height=\"191\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Posing for a picture with some of the other members of the Staff Senate Advisory Committee.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Photo: Joseph Fuqua II\/UC Creative Services<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure more hard work lies ahead, but\u00c2\u00a0I feel proud of our team for persevering and working so well together, and I&#8217;m looking forward to the next chapter to get this thing off the ground and running well.\u00c2\u00a0 I hope we get lots of participation from around campus in 2019!<\/p>\n<h2>The University of Cincinnati Bicentennial Virtual Reality Experience<\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fo9a9HPyohY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Another huge project that has been a main focus of our work at the <a href=\"http:\/\/ucsim.uc.edu\">UCSIM | Center for Simulations &amp; Virtual Environments Research<\/a> this year has been the development of the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ucsim.uc.edu\/blog\/portfolio-item\/university-of-cincinnati-bicentennial-legacy-gift-experiencing-ucs-story-history-future-through-virtual-reality\/\">Bicentennial <em>Virtual Reality Experience<\/em><\/a> that will launch in January 2019 to celebrate the <a href=\"http:\/\/200.uc.edu\">university&#8217;s 200th anniversary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"uc-magazine-2018-april_bicentennialVR_UCSIM\" href=\"http:\/\/epro2.com\/publication\/?i=483278#{%22issue_id%22:483278,%22page%22:18}\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4834\/31942034148_6fc92db98c.jpg\" alt=\"uc-magazine-2018-april_bicentennialVR_UCSIM\" width=\"430\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/epro2.com\/publication\/?i=483278#{%22issue_id%22:483278,%22page%22:18}\">Article in UC Magazine<\/a> highlighting the Bicentennial VR project.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Bicentennial <em>Virtual Reality Experience<\/em> will allow visitors to go back into &#8220;signature moments&#8221; in the university&#8217;s history through five episodes, or vignettes, celebrating the history of research, the classroom experience, our Bearcat Spirit, the struggle for diversity and inclusion, and the changing architecture of the university.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Prez_Pinto?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Prez_Pinto<\/a> finds himself in Albert Sabin\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcs lab thanks to virtual experience created by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ucsim?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ucsim<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/uofcincy?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@uofcincy<\/a> prepares to celebrate our Bicentennial <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BoldlyBearcat?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BoldlyBearcat<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/uofcincyfound?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@uofcincyfound<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/uofcincyalumni?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@uofcincyalumni<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wjYHDVtTdw\">pic.twitter.com\/wjYHDVtTdw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u201d Peter Landgren (@Prez_Landgren) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Prez_Landgren\/status\/975747466208464901?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 19, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a tremendous opportunity for our team to work with so many historians, experts, and university departments throughout the development process.\u00c2\u00a0 We are super excited to wrap up development and prepare for the VR exhibit launch in the coming months!\u00c2\u00a0 Stay tuned and check out all the <a href=\"https:\/\/200.uc.edu\/\">upcoming Bicentennial events planned for 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>A New Grant Award with the College of Nursing<\/h2>\n<p>Lastly, just as the week was ending on Friday, we received notice that a grant proposal submitted by the UC College of Nursing to create VR simulations with UCSIM was funded!\u00c2\u00a0 I can&#8217;t even find any announcements or news on the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/grc.osu.edu\/\">Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center website<\/a> yet, but <a href=\"http:\/\/grc.osu.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/inline-files\/PAEC_RFA_061318_updated_0.pdf\">the Medicaid Technical Assistance and Policy Program Providers as Allies in Equity and Care RFA<\/a> called for applications to create virtual reality experiences and patient simulations for Medicaid providers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"http:\/\/grc.osu.edu\/sites\/all\/themes\/bootstrap_sub\/dot_logo_horizontal.png\" alt=\"Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center logo\" width=\"587\" height=\"126\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The goal of the grant is to advance, &#8220;..health equity for the Medicaid population by increasing Medicaid provider cultural competency and awareness of implicit bias.
