Solution for Cheap Offsite Backups?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone using a computer has to think about backup solutions.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 If you aren&#8217;t backing up your work &#8211; preferably through an automated system that doesn&#8217;t require you to remember to do it &#8211; then you&#8217;re a fool asking for disaster.\u00c2\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Some time ago, I purchased a 2TB external hard drive to back up my PC at home.\u00c2\u00a0 After doing some shopping, I chose the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpletech.com\/products\/storage\/duo-pro-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\">Duo Pro Drive from Fabrik <\/a>and it gave me some peace of mind to know that if my primary hard drive failed, I wouldn&#8217;t lose everything.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpletech.com\/products\/storage\/duo-pro-drive\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Duo Pro Drive from Fabrik\" src=\"http:\/\/www.simpletech.com\/site_cms\/files\/product_family_images\/duo_pro_drive-34.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They also offered an offsite backup option for an additional monthly fee, and though I was tempted, the price tag seemed a little hefty and I chose to pass on the offer, but not having a reliable offsite back-up solution has been nagging at my conscience.\u00c2\u00a0 My external HD will be great if the hard drive in my PC crashes and burns, but what if my house catches on fire?\u00c2\u00a0 Or a power surge fries both my PC and my external HD?<\/p>\n<p>This morning I caught up on some blog reading and a link from Cory Ondrejka&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/ondrejka.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">collapsing geography blog <\/a>caught my eye.\u00c2\u00a0 He mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Backblaze<\/a>, a service offering unlimited offsite backup for $5 a month.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"backblaze\" src=\"http:\/\/www.backblaze.com\/pics\/home-background-v2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"628\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of my concerns about using an offsite backup solution is security of my data &#8211;
